Good people, doing good work, on their own terms
Maxwell Accounting & Consulting was built to give businesses, nonprofits, and families the kind of financial leadership that used to be reserved for companies who could afford a full department. We built the firm around the same idea for our own people: real ownership, real flexibility, and a clear path forward.
Room to grow
We promote from within. We’re a young firm, but what’s already true: we don’t throw people in and see if they sink or swim. You get oriented, trained, and brought up to speed first, then you grow into owning client relationships as you’re ready. As you take on more, we hand you more: Manager, then Controller, then Partner. We’d rather grow our next Partner than go hire one.
Staff Accountant → Senior Accountant → Manager → Controller → Partner
If you’re good at this work and you want more of it, there’s a next step waiting for you.
Growth doesn’t have to mean climbing that ladder, either. A lot of firms push people up or out: manage a team or move on. We don’t work that way. If you love the technical work and have no interest in managing people, that’s a real path here too. We invest in your development either way, whether that means more advanced clients, more certifications, or just getting better at the craft.
Led by people who’ve done the work
Maxwell is led by three CPAs, all women, each with 10-15 years of experience across family office, internal accounting, audit, tax, and advisory work. Between us we’ve sat in most of the seats on your career ladder, and we like nothing more than teaching what we’ve learned.
Work that fits your life
Every role here is part time, or built like one. Some of our team work close to 40 hours a week. Some work 10. Some are off every Friday. Some only work mornings. What we ask is that everyone hold a handful of core hours so clients can reach them and the team can get time together. Beyond that, where and when the work happens is up to you. We care about deadlines, not desks.
We’re remote, genuinely. If you want to work from a cabin, a coffee shop, or while traveling, we support that.
The work (and the clients) actually vary
We ask what you want to work on and factor that into how we staff you. Family office, small business, nonprofit, whatever draws you. We’re also picky about who we take on. We only work with clients who are good to work with, so the day to day is fun.
A team, not a bunch of freelancers
We hire ahead of the workload, so no one is ever the only person who can cover a client. We’d rather be overstaffed than watch someone burn out. We cross train so a teammate can always step in without scrambling. We expect people to own their engagements and their deadlines, but owning your work doesn’t mean carrying it by yourself. If you’re stuck or swamped, someone has your back.
Your ideas actually go somewhere
Very little here is set in stone. If you find a tool that would save the team time, a better way to run a client process, or something that’s just broken, say so. We’ll look at it as a team, and if it makes sense, we adopt it. Everyone’s ideas matter here.
We notice good work
When someone does excellent work for a client, or shows up for a teammate who’s underwater, we don’t want that to be a line in an annual review. We look for ways to reflect it in how we pay and recognize people, and we try to make sure it reaches you in the moment, not months later.
